West Fest is grunge, more grunge than you. It’s more grunge than flannel and distort.
Now in its third year, West Fest was the brain child of local musician and Eat Here Records founder, Dusty West. “It all started out as a joke” Dusty laughs “lets make a grunge revival festival and name it after me. West Fest on the East coast.”
Starting off as a one night show, it could hardly be label a fest, but each and every year the show has expanded, not comprises of a three day music festival in three locations in both Rochester and Buffalo.
“It was important to get into Buffalo and continue to spread the word of grunge. Grunge is a dying art, there art many bands around anymore. With West fest we pay homage to all of the genres that influenced grunge music; Punk to Metal and everything in between.”
The line up is intense this year featuring strong local acts such as Envious Disguise, Ocean of Insects, Routine Involvements and Thoroughbred.
Dusty had nothing but the best to say about the bands playing the show “Rochester bands take their shots, its hard to get a head in this city. The line up we have this year really shows how much talent we have in this city. Every band that is playing has what it takes to bring it to the next level.”
I asked Dusty if there was a band that he wanted to book but couldn’t play. “Nirvana” he replied “Kurt won’t respond to any of my tweets”
The Festival starts off invading both stages at Broadway Joe’s Bar and Grille August 22nd.
The second night will be at Bug Jar and be co hosted by Tim Avery.
The last night will finish up at Pandaman Toys and be co hosted by Beth Royce Small.
Limited pre sale tickets will be $6, $8 at the door.
