Fuck you, bitch. They’re conscience.

Fuck you, bitch. They’re conscience.

There’s a lot to be said for being self aware. There’s even more to said about it when you find yourself in the rap scene, an industry dominated by gilded glitz and glamor. It’s one thing to rap well, but if that doesn’t translate to hot girls, gold chains and big cars, you haven’t won.

People With Teeth, however, see things a little different. The trio born in Upstate NY, but out of Brooklyn, is made up of Mike Gerbino, Sue-Elise Peebles and A.K. Williams (of Black Bandit). They don’t hide what defines them in their new music video “We Conscience.”

Opening to books, booze, activist propaganda and political tees, People With Teeth prides themselves on being intelligent and well informed, while they actively call out other rappers who take political angles only for further publicity.

They tear up some books, shout out Chomsky, and, as defined by one comment, “it’s difficult to tell where their satire ends and genuine insight begins.”

However, this hasn’t stopped them from still being fly. Intelligent conversations in rap tend to get put under the umbrella of ‘hip-hop,’ with more involved beats sampling obscure references. People With Teeth hits rap head on.

With beats and synths that would be heard best through a sub woofer that rattles the car more than the soul, hearing People With Teeth blasting down the street would go from corner store hang outs to a study session the closer you get.

Watch the video, think about it and tell them. However, they probably already know.
